Gardening by the Moon was first published by Caren Catterall almost 30 years ago. She put together the calendar in 1997, based largely on the scholarship of Louise Riotte, for her own gardening purposes (as she says—always looking for that earliest tomato!) and published about 50 copies for friends the following year. The calendar grew out from there, encompassing different time zones and growing seasons, digital and printed media, and even at one point software for the desktop computer.
Since her retirement in 2022, the planting guide has been published by Maxx and Toby, the worker-owners of Wolf Hill Press. Along with the beloved calendar Caren created, we are happy to offer you other garden planning tools and supplies, and look forward to publishing other lunar planting resources in the near future.
